Number of new infections among Filipinos abroad remains relatively high

The Department of Foreign Affairs reports that the total number of active cases among Filipinos overseas is at 7,286, with 85 new cases reported on June 26, 1 new case on June 24, 226 new cases on June 23, 4 on June 21, and 7 on June 20.

As of yesterday, June 27, he overall total of Covid-19 cases among Filipinos abroad is at 20,747, with 12,234 recoveries so far, and 1,227 deaths.

Most of the cases were from the Middle East and Africa, with 11,741 cases in total. In comparison, there were 4,468 cases from the Asia Pacific region, 3,552 from Europe, and 986 from the Americas.

The DFA also announced another repatriation flight from Riyadh over the weekend, bringing home 301 OFWs on a chartered Philippine Airlines flight yesterday. “Qualified repatriates received financial assistance of ten thousand pesos (P10,000.00). They will also undergo quarantine provided by the Philippine government, in accordance with the health protocols set by the Department of Health (DOH) – Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) and shall be subjected to RT-PCR Testing for COVID19, before being reunited with their families,” reads the DFA’s press release.
