Just a few days before the arrival of incumbent US President Donald Trump to the Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte once again shared his strong opinions on former President Barack Obama.

Duterte is in Vietnam for APEC 2017. In a report by The Philippine Star on Friday, Duterte was addressing the Filipino community when he spoke against those who are criticizing his controversial war on drugs, especially the drug-related killings and alleged human rights violations.

“Itong mga puti, mga taga-EU, itong mga ignorante ng mga Amerikano, pretending to be… pati itong si Obama. Itim-itim mo, mayabang ka. Siya man yun. [He] reprimanded me. Why do you reprimand me? I’m the president of a country,” Duterte was quoted in the PhilStar report.

(These white people, those from EU, these ignorant Americans, pretending to be… even Obama. You are so dark, you are arrogant. That’s who he is.)

In Tagalog, the word “itim” means “black”.

Touting his anti-drugs campaign, Duterte said that the Philippines only saw thousands of drug users surrender to authorities under his rule. He also pointed out Trump’s declaration of the US’ opioid crisis as a national emergency.

Tingnan mo si Trump, he declared a national emergency last week. Ako early on sinabi ko I declared a national emergency. Kasi may problema tayo. Kailan ninyo nakita yan na nag-surrender by the thousands, by the hundreds of thousands? When I became president,” said Duterte.

(Look at Trump. He declared a national emergency last week. Early on, I declared a national emergency because we have a problem. When have you seen drug suspects surrender by the thousands, by the hundreds of thousands? When I became president.)
