A prosecutor working at the Manila Regional Trial Court was gunned down this morning in the city’s district of Paco.

The victim, 62-year-old Jovencio Senados, was killed along Quirino Highway corner Anakbayan, police reports have said. Senados was driving his vehicle at about 11am, when gun-toting men riding a black sports car with the plate number AVG 8133 opened fire at him.

Manila police are unsure about the motive behind the killing; they are pursuing the assailants as of writing.

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice condemned Senados’ killing and vowed that it would use all of its resources to prosecute his assailants. Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said in a statement that the crime proves the “grave peril that our prosecutors face each day in the discharge of their duties.”
