The organizer of ComicCon Asia 2018 is standing by her statement regarding Hayley Atwell’s cancelled appearance.
The British actress earlier said she decided to cancel her trip because of conflicts with her work schedule. This was in contrast to an earlier claim by ComicCon Asia, with the actress allegedly citing “political unrest” as the reason.
Pauline Sofia Laping, the head of PSL Entertainment, said that the statement they released reflected “what [they] received from the official management of [Atwell’s] side.”
“I completely understand the controversial things going on regarding Hayley,” she told ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe in a press conference held Saturday. “We respect her decision.”
Atwell was the second celebrity guest to cancel a scheduled appearance following Stan Lee, who backed out due to fears over his health. The 95-year-old Marvel Comics legend revealed last month that he was battling pneumonia.
But despite the controversies, ComicCon Asia 2018 still pushed through with its opening this weekend.
It featured a guest lineup of Dacre Montgomery of “Stranger Things,” “Teen Wolf” star Holland Roden, Walter Jones, the original Black Ranger from the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” and voice actors from the super popular video game “Overwatch.”
The first day was marred by long lines to get in, however, with fans complaining online that they were stuck for hours.
