A staff sergeant, his wife, and their 11-year-old son were injured by shrapnel after a grenade exploded at the headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Sunday morning.
AFP spokesman Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said in statement yesterday that the blast occurred at around 6:30am inside the quarters of Staff Sgt. Larry De Guzman. Arevalo said that De Guzman, his wife Erliza, and his son are being treated at the V. Luna Hospital in Quezon City, while De Guzman’s 5-year-old daughter, who was elsewhere at the time, was spared from the blast, Rappler reports.
Arevalo said that De Guzman and his wife had been arguing prior to the explosion, and that he has reason to believe the explosion was a result of the domestic spat, Manila Bulletin reports.
“The incident appears to have emanated from a domestic problem where the spouses have been engaged in a heated argument prior to the incident,” Arevalo said.
Besides the three sustaining bruises and shrapnel wounds, no one else in the adjacent housing units was hurt, CNN Philippines reports.
Both the police and the AFP are investigating the incident further.
