A cement truck crashed on top of a Honda Brio yesterday afternoon, killing one and injuring four.
The truck driver, Jason Muleta, was driving on the southbound lane in Mindanao Ave. Quezon City when the truck’s brakes stopped working. He told news website Interaksyon that he decided to swerve and go over an island to his left but this led to the truck toppling over and crashing on the car.

“I stepped on [the brake] several times but it still wasn’t working. So instead, I turned to the center island to avoid hitting other cars and hurting more people,” he said to CNN Philippines in Filipino.
Inside the five-door hatchback vehicle was a family of five. Ulysses Ramos, 34, was in the driver’s seat and in the car with him were his wife Marife Ramos, 35 years old and their three children, all under the age of 13.
The crash happened in front of the Bureau of Jail and Management and Penology headquarters and most of the early rescuers were employees of the government office.
Marife and the children were rescued and brought to a hospital first. It took rescuers approximately two hours to lift Ulysses out of the car and bring him to a hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
