Why are there buses that catch fire?
On Mon morning, Jul 18, a Yohan bus liner caught fire as it went through Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
Concerned citizen Sheryl Arias sent to ABS-CBN News a video of the bus covered by thick smoke. By then, it had stopped near Villa Beatrice, westbound going to Tandang Sora. (Click this link to watch the video.)
Arias related, “I was on a shuttle on the way to the office. Traffic had built up and we saw the bus covered in smoke. We also saw people getting out of the bus.”
Charlie Nazares of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) office explained that the incident was reported to them at around 8:38am.
Two of the injured passengers were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center and are now in stable condition.
The other passengers were given first aid, as some of them had to break the glass on the bus windows so they could get out of the burning vehicle.
Meanwhile, the bus driver is now in the custody of the Quezon City Traffic Bureau for further investigation.
The report did not yet reveal the cause of the bus fire.
