Saudia plane placed in ‘isolation’ at NAIA, pilot accidentally pressed distress call

A Saudia Airlines commercial flight had been placed in isolation at a Ninoy Aquino International Airport runway on Tue afternoon, Sep 20.

Police anti-hijacking operatives were seen in the area.

Saudia Airlines flight SVA 872 from Jeddah landed at 3pm at NAIA and was placed in total isolation at a secluded portion of runway 06 for around 2.5 hours.

Initial reports showed that the Manila International Airport Authority Emergency Services Department received an advise from the Manila control tower that the flight was under threat, 20 miles before the jet landed at the airport.

NAIA GM Ed Monreal later said the pilot had mistakenly pressed the “distress call.”
