A pastor from La Trinidad, Benguet successfully fought off an attacker and even brought himself to a hospital for treatment, the local media reported yesterday.

Bishop Julian Mangida was on board a jeepney with the suspect when the latter suddenly tried to stab the pastor with a knife. Mangida pushed the suspect out of the vehicle and the two became engaged in a struggle.

“He pushed the suspect out and they grappled until someone helped him,” said Johndido Dayagan Jr., the Duty Officer of the La Trinidad Police Station, told the news program Balitang Amianan.

Mangida had 16 stab wounds but he managed to bring himself to a hospital after successfully battling it out with his foe. Meanwhile, the suspect said he doesn’t know Mangida personally and that he had attacked the pastor because he was depressed. The suspect had apologized for his crime.

The attacker has been charged in connection with the incident.
