While President Rodrigo Duterte welcomed the presence of United States President Donald Trump, not everyone was thrilled about his presence.

According to Rappler, at least 2,000 protesters showed up on Taft Avenue and Padre Faura st. yesterday to protest Trump.

“Trump represents the worst aspects of US imperialism. His visit to the Philippines will bring more harm than good,” Bayan, one of the left-aligned groups that protested, was quoted in the Philippine Star.

The group also noted that they believe Trump seeks to “maintain the grossly unequal relations between the US and Philippines.”

Protesters said that at least 20 people were hurt in the rally. The Philippine National Police said six of their officers were also hurt when the crowd turned rowdy.

Protesters also burned a 13-foot four-armed effigy of Trump.

The effigy shows Trump with four arms that form a swastika sign, with one arm holding a shovel, one holding a gun, one holding a missile, and the other, a money bag. According to Renato Reyes of leftist Bagong Alanysang Makabayan (BAYAN) the three items symbolize”fascism, war, and plunder,” while the shovel symbolizes US’ exploitation of ASEAN countries.

Trump is scheduled to leave Manila today ahead of the East Asia Summit.
