Thirty-nine blocks of suspected cocaine were recovered in the waters off Gubat town in Sorsogon province yesterday.
Fishermen Melvin Gregorio, Loubert Ergina, and John Mark Nabong were out in the water fishing when they found the suspected cocaine floating at around 2pm in Bagacay Village, ABS-CBN News reported.
The suspected illegal drugs were placed inside 12 boxes, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported. They’re worth an estimated PHP218.4million (US$4.17million), CNN Philippines reported.
The contraband is now in the custody of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Cocaine bricks have been found near or floating on Philippine waters since February when at least 37 blocks were found in Dinagat Islands. Similar packages have also been discovered in other parts of the country including Davao Oriental, Quezon Province, Camarines Norte, Aurora, and Siargao.
Authorities are still investigating where the illegal drugs came from.
