To help children affected by the ongoing armed conflict in Marawi City, actor Robin Padilla donated PHP5 million (USD100,000) to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Inquirer reported that Padilla met with President Rodrigo Duterte yesterday to hand over his donation at Malacañang Palace. It was received by DSWD Undersecretary Emmanuel Leyco.

“The PHP5 million donation is intended for the immediate psychosocial intervention for the children affected by the armed conflict in Marawi City,” Malacañang said in a press release.

According to GMA News, Padilla was joined by Fisheries Development Authority General Manager Glen A. Pangapalan, Frabelle Foods Corp. President Francisco Tiu Laurel, Jr., and his brother Rommel C. Padilla.

Others who witnessed the signing of the deed of donation were Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez, DSWD Asst. Sec. Rodolfo Santos, and Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief-of-Staff Gen. Eduardo Año.

Padilla, a Muslim convert, supported Duterte during the 2016 elections and has been active in campaigning for the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law, a bill that would grant more autonomy for a Muslim region in Mindanao.

More than 400,000 people have been displaced, and over 600 killed,  in the three months since fighting began.
