6 San Juan Cemetery informal settlers arrested for using shabu in gambling

Amid the country’s intensified war against drugs and the killings that have been attributed to suspected vigilantes, there are some people who are still pushing their luck.

Then again, when you’re an informal settler inside a public cemetery, perhaps, you think that cops won’t bother with you.

However, earlier this week, six people who share the address, “288 San Juan City Cemetery, Barangay West Crame,” were caught by cops as they played a gambling game at around 4pm.

The clincher: The suspects — two men and four women with the youngest being 19 and the oldest at 53 — were using shabu as “bets” in their gambling game.

“Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula revealed that the operation was planned and launched based on a tip that the suspects were engaged in selling illegal drugs inside the cemetery,” reports Arlene Rivera on Journal Online.

The report noted: “Recovered from the suspects were transparent plastic sachets containing unspecified quantities of suspected shabu, as well as several plastic and wood chips used in the improvised numbers game and some cash.”

The suspects will be charged accordingly.
