Brace yourselves, guys.

Expect nearly 4,000 flight cancellations and delays on March 6 to 11 for both international and domestic flights due to a scheduled radar shutdown.

The Tagaytay City radar, which covers the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City, is due for a maintenance shutdown. This means flights coming in and out of the cuontry via NAIA will be affected.

From the daily average of 40 landings and take-offs, it will go down to 32 during the shutdown.

“If you reduce the radars, we will have to space the aircrafts based on time because the air traffic controllers cannot see them,” said Capt. Skee Tamayo, Deputy Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), in an ABS-CBN News interview.

Around 2,000 Philippine Airlines (PAL) passengers will be affected, but the has already placed contingency plans like using bigger planes or rebooking flights. Changes in flight schedule will be sent via email and text message, according to PAL.
