At least 40 students in a Batangas high school were brought to the hospital today after they suffered from extreme heat.

Ambulances were deployed to Bauan Technical High School in Bauan, Batangas after some of its students passed out or experienced dizziness this afternoon, reported The Philippine Daily Inquirer.  Town officials believe that the students did not feel well due to the extremely hot weather, which reached as high as 37 degrees Celsius today.

Some of the students were brought to Bauan Doctors’ General Hospital while the others were brought to the Bauan Public Hospital, reported SunStar Manila.

It was just yesterday when about 60 students from the same school were hospitalized due to the heat. The students fell ill during an earthquake drill where some of them even fainted, reported RMN. However, Lt. Col. Joemar Labiano, Bauan’s police chief, said that those students recovered quickly and were eventually sent home.

Classes at the school were suspended today in light of what happened to the students.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration declared the start of the rainy season on Friday last week but many areas are still experiencing extremely hot temperatures. In fact, a water shortage is looming because the amount of rain has been insufficient to fill up Angat Dam, a major source of water for Metro Manila residents.
