This will make people think twice about littering.

Authorities apprehended a total of 35 people last night after catching them throwing trash in the streets of Sta. Cruz, Manila.

Chief Insp. Richard Villanueva of the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 3 told ABS-CBN News that they were conducting an anti-criminality campaign at the time when officers saw the people littering.

They will each be fined PHP200 (US$3.70) for violating an ordinance against littering, the same report added.

A small fine but multiplied by 35, that’s around PHP7,000 (US$129.67) right there.

Some of them said they didn’t know that it was prohibited to throw trash on the streets.

Dudes, it’s common sense.

Others said it takes too long for their rubbish in the area to be taken by garbage trucks — still not a convincing argument there.

Here’s hoping they learn their lesson.
