3 farmers killed by snipers in Cebu

Violence over land disputes are commonplace in the Philippines.

But what isn’t common is snipers being used to kill farmers.

According to a report in SunStar Superbalita, three farmers were killed yesterday by sniper fire in Balamban town in Cebu. Police said the motive for the shootings was a longstanding dispute over a piece of land.

Police officer Emmanuel Victor Blones said that the scene “was like the movie American Sniper. He said all of the victims were shot right in the head or the heart.

Blones was referring to the 2014 film starring Bradley Cooper based on a memoir by US Navy Seal sniper Chris Kyle who is often referred to as “the deadliest sniper in US history.”

The suspects were identified as Ruel Codiñera, 34, farmers Reynaldo, Jr., 29, his father  Renaldo, Sr. 60, and Junifer Tundag, 34.
