In a double case of bad luck, two women got injured yesterday after they were both struck by lightning in Subic, Zambales.
Francisca Dela Cruz, 42, and Gina Calisag, 46, found themselves in the worst position (literally) when the tree they were resting under was struck by lightning at around 3pm, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
When lightning strikes a tree, the energy travels to the ground surface, which turns into ground current. Whoever is near a lightning strike can be a victim of ground current.
The same report said that the two women were immediately brought to the Lourdes Medical Hospital in Olongapo City for treatment of their burns.
Calisag is reportedly in stable condition while Dela Cruz remains in critical condition.
