Strays deserve to be treated well too.

Two men have been arrested after they were caught nabbing and eventually killing stray cats in Malabon City on Saturday.

Construction workers Juan Espayos Jr., 48 years old; and Arthuro Sanchez, 53 years old, were caught grabbing the cats from the street while Malabon City police were conducting an anti-crime operation in Barangay (Village) Longos, the Manila Bulletin reported.

The report said that police allegedly saw one of them put a stray cat inside a sack while the other placed the sack inside a cart. When authorities inspected the cart, 15 of the cats were allegedly already dead. GMA News reported that the other three cats eventually died as well.

The incident happened at around 11:30amAbante Tonite reported.

Sanchez, one of the suspects, alleged that his niece was going to embalm the cats and sell them to medical students of the Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) and that they were going to be paid PHP40 (US$75) for each cat, the Manila Bulletin wrote.

Malabon police staff duty officer Police Inspector Ferdinand Espiritu told GMA News that the police had asked for legal documents or permits that allowed them to catch the cats but the suspects were unable to provide any.

However, for some reason, the two men actually thought they were doing something good.

“We ask permission from public markets to get the cats … they said [the cats] were pests,” Sanchez told GMA News in Filipino.

Nope, you’re not doing the world any favors, dude.

The suspects will be charged for violating Republic Act 10631 or the Amended Animal Welfare Act.
