A Filipino teenager was shot and killed on Tuesday in Makati City.

According to Inquirer, the boy was identified by police as Maynard Allan Manalo, a 17-year-old senior high student. He was sitting on a flight of stairs with his girlfriend just meters away from his home when gunmen shot his head with a .45-caliber pistol at around 6:45pm.

Five shells were found at the crime scene.

The gunmen and their motives are still unknown and police think that it may have been a case of mistaken identity.

“The suspects may have been looking for another person as their target, but he was there,” Makati City Police Station chief Senior Supt. Gerardo Umayao told Inquirer. “We are checking if it’s a case of mistaken identity because if their goal was to kill, how come his girlfriend was left unharmed?”

Apart from a fight after a basketball game, police said that Manalo had no known enemies.

Manalo was immediately brought to the Ospital ng Makati but was declared dead yesterday at 2am.

A number of teen deaths in the Philippines have been reported in the past year, including Kian Delos Santos who was allegedly shot by police during an anti-drug operation.
