Pia on Bb. Pilipinas victory: It’s been a journey

MANILA – Pia Wurtzbach shared her thoughts after winning the Miss Universe Philippines crown on her third try.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News after she was crowned on Sunday night, Wurtzbach said she plans to make the most out of her reign, noting that “it was a long journey getting here.”

“I’m very happy, obviously. I’m super excited. I always said that when I win, I’m going to be the busiest queen because I’m going to make the most out of the year, my reign. I was first runner-up in 2013 and I didn’t make it last year. Now, I finally did. It was a long journey getting here. I’m not going to waste this,” she said.

“I always said to myself that after this, I’m going to have a celebratory meal, but it looks like that’s not going to happen. I have to start training as soon as possible and I’m really excited,” she added.

Citing her experience, Wurtzbach encouraged people to keep working hard to achieve their dreams.

“I urge everybody, if you have a dream, don’t give up because you’ll never know,” she said. “Thank you, Lord. Siguro dahil runner-up ako noong una and I didn’t make it last year, my faith is stronger now. Talagang in God’s perfect timing, everything will happen.”

Wurtzbach, who hails from Cagayan de Oro, will represent the Philippines in the Miss Universe pageant.

For the question and answer portion, Wurtzbach was asked about her thoughts on Internet censorship by Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo.

“I think that we should be careful with what we post online, especially our thoughts and our opinions that we don’t hurt anybody, especially selfies. We have to be careful with what we post, especially with our bodies and our faces. So always think before you click,” Wurtzbach answered.

The other winners on Sunday were: Janicel Lubina, who was crowned Binibining Pilipinas International; Ann Lorraine Colis, who was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Tourism; Christi Lynn McGarry, who was named Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental; and Rogelie Catacutan, who won Binibining Pilipinas Supranational.

Hannah Ruth Lulu Sison and Kimverlyn Suiza were proclaimed first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.
