Optical Media Board seeks help from PH police to combat online piracy of film ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye’

After earning almost PHP605 million (US$11.561 million) in the local box office four weeks after its premiere, the romantic drama Hello, Love, Goodbye is now currently the highest-earning domestic film production of the year. However, a government agency has gotten involved to express its concern over the movie’s numerous pirated versions making the internet rounds.

The Optical Media Board (OMB) announced today in a statement that it received an “alarming amount of reports” about the presence of download and streaming links for the hit movie. It also said, however, that going after individual online pirates is the responsibility of the Philippine National Police, Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG).

“Nevertheless, OMB has collected and collated all reports, as well as the links [sent to us], and have forwarded these to the PNP-ACG for their appropriate disposition,” it said.

The OMB “has also informed Facebook Philippines’ Head of Public Policy regarding these concerns, and have requested for the takedown of the infringing sites.” The agency also encouraged netizens to report any websites linking to downloads of the film’s pirated copies through to the PNP-ACG’s official website.

The OMB was established to combat piracy, but apparently, its only official responsibility lies in going after businesses that produce and distribute illegal copies of videos recorded on CDs and DVDs.

Hello, Love, Goodbye tells the love story of two overseas Filipino workers: Joy (Kathryn Bernardo), who has devoted her life providing for her family, and Ethan (Alden Richards) an aimless bartender. It has also been shown in theaters in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
