Is it too late now to say sorry?
Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 Nguyen Thi Loan doesn’t think so. One year after commenting “ugly” on reigning Miss International Kylie Verzosa’s Instagram photo, Nguyen posted an apology on Instagram last Saturday addressed to Verzosa and “Filipino Beauty Fans.”

Instead of saying “You’re beautiful just the way you are,” or anything along those lines, she said that she was just wanted to express an honest opinion.
“Just by natural reaction, I thought that it was not a good picture of her and I commented based on my honest feelings,” she said.
Nguyen then reminded that sometimes, even beauty queens don’t look so good in photos.
“You would agree with me that sometimes, even the most beautiful person, could have a non-really (sic) photogenic picture…due to the angle, the lighting or a wrong moment.”
And her explanation for the comment? Her “limited English.”
“Perhaps I could have stated things more clearly but due to my limited English, I made you all misunderstand me. I want to emphasize that I don’t judge or comment about people just like that.”
But in the end, she still said sorry and that the incident has been a learning experience.
“I am sorry for any inconvenience caused. I sincerely apologize for hurting Kylie and you by accident. This is a lesson for me and I will take more care in the future,” she said.
Nguyen’s comment on Verzosa’ photo has since been deleted but pageant fans were quick to get receipts.

Filipino pageant fans can get really intense but a number of them have accepted the apology. Verzosa has not released any statement on the matter.
Nguyen will be competing at this year’s Miss Universe which will be held in on Nov. 26 in Las Vegas, while Verzosa will go on a month-long trip to Japan in preparation for Miss International 2017 in November.
