This is Coconuts Manila’s guide to everything you need to check out over the weekend. Peruse it, take note of everything that interests you, and don’t forget to let us know all about it.

Venue: Cultural Center of the Philippines, Greenbelt 1, TriNoma, Fairview Terraces, UP Town Center, Glorietta, Solenad, Nuvali, and Ayala Center Cebu.

If you did not know, Cinemalaya 2017 started Friday. This year, there are 9 full-length films in competition, each one with its own distinct style and story. If you can’t decide what to watch, here’s a complete list of the selections and their trailers.

Can’t make it this weekend? Don’t fret. Films buffs will be happy to know that another local independent film festival is coming up this month, but more on that next week.

Date: Opens Aug. 10, Thursday

Venue: The Theatre at Solaire

Feel like watching something live? West Side Story opens tomorrow in the Theatre at Solaire. The Broadway classic is a Romeo and Juliet love story set in 1950s New York and popularized songs like “I Feel Pretty,” “American,” and “Maria.” Get your tickets tonight, tonight and sing along to this playlist before and after the show.

Drink some tea, shop, and support local art when you go to MaArte at the Pen

Date: Aug. 11 – 13 (Friday – Sunday)

Venue:  The Gallery, The Peninsula Manila

On MaArte Fair’s ninth year, expect to find a selection of Filipino products including fine jewelry,  handcrafted bags, and clothes made with local textiles. They’ve also partnered up with The Peninsula Manila’ The Lobby by offering special tea brews by Filipino brands, Tsaa Laya and da.u.de.

If that’s not enough to make you go, know that 50% of the proceeds go directly to the National Museum.

Busy this weekend? Here are events you can check out early next week.

  • Liam Gallagher Live in Manila, Aug. 14 (Monday) at the Mall of Asia Arena
  • Phoenix Live in Manila, Aug. 15 (Tuesday) at the Smart Araneta Coliseum
