Actress KC Concepcion, who attended the controversial Baguio City party organized by friend Tim Yap, showed off a negative COVID-19 test on social media last night.

“Negative swab loves, ready for work!”  the caption on KC’s photo said. The photo was shared by an account called @teamkcpj on Instagram. The actress was tagged in the image, and the photo appeared on KC’s personal Instagram page.

KC was one of the high-profile guests at Yap’s party, which drew the public’s ire because it was organized right in the middle of the pandemic. Filipinos became even more enraged when Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong admitted that he was at the party with his wife; he even had the audacity to defend Yap by saying that the socialite had done a lot to promote his city as a tourist destination.

As a consequence of flouting pandemic rules, KC, Yap, Magalong’s wife, and 30 other participants paid a PHP1,500 (US$31) penalty each. Some people pointed out that this was a mere slap on the wrist compared to what happened to the jeepney drivers arrested in Caloocan last year, who were arrested for protesting against the government. The six men were asking the government to allow them to work, and as a punishment, they were arrested because they allegedly broke social distancing rules.

Among those arrested was an elderly man named Elmer Cordero, who was forced to stay in detention for a total of seven days and was freed only after posting a bail of PHP10,000 (US$208).

In a statement released over the weekend, the transport group Piston bewailed the light punishment slapped on Yap, KC, and their friends.

“The government should look into the situation of our drivers whom they arrested on June 2 and whom they detained for seven days. But these popular personalities weren’t even detained and their penalties were lower. That means the law is not fair in the way it treats citizens,” the group said.

Meanwhile, KC had already apologized for her trespass and urged people to “move forward.”

The actress has long been known to the public because her parents are multi-awarded actors Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion, while her stepfather is Senator Francis Pangilinan. While she had become somewhat inactive in entertainment for the past few years, she has always been involved in charity work and is a brand ambassador for the World Food Program.
