Manila is apparently filled with bookworms, as evidenced by the overwhelming response to book sales organized by Big Bad Wolf and the mushrooming of independent bookstores all over the capital.

So it comes as no surprise that bibliophiles are looking forward to the 2018 Philippine Readers and Writers Festival, which will happen on Aug. 10–12 at Raffles Makati.

Participants can attend panel discussions, book signings, and watch a movie musical during the two-day event.

A treat to fans of the teen drama Riverdale, the co-chief executive officer of Archie Comics Publications will be there to talk about the beloved comic on Aug. 11 at 3:30pm.

Meanwhile, fans of local comics can check out “Dead Balagtas: The New Face of Philippine Comics” on Aug. 12, 1pm; and “Supporting the Filipino Komikero” at Aug.12, 3pm.

Those who are into pop fiction and young adult fiction are also represented with a book signing of former Wattpad writers turned published authors Pilosopotasya, Sam Madison, KenDaniel, and Crossroads on Aug. 11 at 1–2:30pm; and a discussion titled “Bookworms Unite!: Establishing an Inclusive YA Community in the Philippines for Readers, by Readers” where various bloggers will participate. That happens on Aug. 12 at 3pm.

Local writers will also be at the event including Butch Dalisay, Lourd de Veyra, Marjorie Evasco and Ruel De Vera, who will talk about the Philippine classics (August 10, 3:30–5pm); and journalists Mickey Fenix-Makabenta, RV Manabat, and Claude Tayag who will talk about the world of food and travel writing (Aug. 11, 1–2:30pm).

Young writers who want to improve their craft can also ask editors of the Inquirer‘s Youngblood column to provide feedback on how they can improve their work. That happens on Aug. 11 at 1–3pm.

There will also be a screening of the musical Ang Larawan which will be followed by a panel discussion led by its producers Celeste Legaspi and Girlie Rodis (Aug. 10, 9:30am–12 noon).

The event is open to the public but attendees are requested to RSVP at this link.
