Farmer’s son, cop’s daughter receive scholarships from Ivy League schools

The future looks bright for two Filipino students of the International School Manila (ISM) who are headed to Ivy League schools on full scholarship.

Romnick Blanco will go Harvard in Massachusettes, while Jessica Cuadro is going to Columbia University in New York.

Blanco is a farmer’s son who used to walk two hours every day to attend school in Sierra Madre, Bulacan. He had applied for a scholarship at ISM five years ago and was admitted with flying colors.

His full scholarship to Harvard covers his tuition, accommodation, flights and even winter clothing.

Meanwhile, Cuadro is a policeman’s daughter who wanted to earn her degree as quickly as possible to help with her family’s finances. Though entering ISM meant two additional years of study, her family as been very supportive.

A total of 13 students from ISM’s graduating class this year made it Ivy League schools.
