Filipinos are a romantic lot, so Valentine’s Day is a big deal around here.

If you’re after an extra-special celebration — one of those fancy, big date night affairs — then a good way to do this is to book a meal or overnighter at one of Metro Manila’s many hotels, where special multi-course menus and staycation deals are offered.

The sheer volume of promos available can get pretty overwhelming this time of year, though, so here’s a short list of some of the holiday specials that the Coconuts Manila crew found particularly promising.

Indulge in a little molecular gastronomy in hip Poblacion

Poblacion’s five-star I’M Hotel has a four-course gourmet meal couples can try on Valentine’s Day. Priced at PHP3,700 per couple (US$70.97), the meal is said to be inspired by molecular gastronomy.

Diners can also expect to watch live entertainment and receive complimentary gifts.

Note: There will only be two dinner seatings that night — one from 6pm to 8pm, and the other from 8:30pm to 10:30pm.

Try a five-course omakase set

Nobu Manila at City of Dreams in Parañaque is having a Valentine’s Day omakase from Feb. 14 to 16. Priced at PHP10,000 (US$191.80) for two people, the omakase has five courses, including a sushi platter, a serving of brick oven-roasted slipper lobster tail, and sous vide Australian tenderloin.

Have a pool-side dinner for two curated by a top chef

Those in the mood for a pool-side dinner for two can turn to Hilton Manila in Pasay, which is hosting a five-course dining menu that was curated by its Executive Chef Dennis Leslie.

The meal will be priced at PHP2,500 (US$47.97) per person on Valentine’s Day.

They’ll also be giving away a plush toy to cap off the evening.
