Have you ever considered traveling to Australia, but the cost of the trip made you think twice about cuddling those cute little koalas, so you ended up going to a cat cafe in Manila to get your furry fix instead? (Nope, just us?)

Well, it’s time to put down those second-rate felines, and snuggle some real life Aussie marsupials because we have just the budget-friendly #travelinspo you’ve been waiting for. Check out our pick of affordable Gold Coast attractions, then Scoot on over there for as low as PHP5,599 and experience it all!

Hinterlands Hiking

Since we love going off the beaten path, our first suggestion isn’t one of Gold Coast’s beautiful beaches, but a hike through the pristine nature of the Hinterlands. It’s the perfect spot to get away from it all and deepen your relationship to nature. Whether you’re a tree hugging nature lover or a total city slicker, you have nothing to worry about, because there are over 140 trails for you to choose from. Stroll along the tree top bridge walk through O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat with no cost at all and feel the lush greenery while enjoying some magnificent views. You might even spot some wildlife! Don’t try to cuddle anything yet though.

Market Hopping

Sample fresh Australian produce and an abundance of local street food, all while dancing to live jazz music at Gold Coast’s Miami Marketta. It’s a never ending gastronomic journey every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. And if you’re a fashionista or a culture vulture, stop by The Village Markets at Burleigh Heads State School. Held every first and third Sunday of every month, The Village Markets are full of fashion and lifestyle goodies along with live local music.

Mount Tamborine Glow Worm Caves

Experience a magical moment surrounded by thousands of sparkles made by these glowing worms. The glow worm cave at Mount Tamborine was purpose-built to help the glow worm population survive and combat the deforestation of the local rainforest. The caves maintain the best environment for the glow worms, and can be visited all year round for only AU$12 per person.

Colorful lorikeets at Currumbin

You’ll feel just like a Disney princess (or prince!) when you befriend these colorful little birdies. Enjoying the full experience of the world of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is AU$49.95 per person (totally worth it when you see the cute koalas, kangaroos and kookaburras, by the way) but getting to know the lorikeets is completely free. There’s an arena right in front of the Sanctuary entrance so animal lovers can attend feeding sessions held every morning and afternoon. With a little donation, you’ll receive a plate of nectar that these lovely lorikeets can’t resist.

Currumbin Rock Pools

Just 20 minutes drive from the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary you’ll find this hidden gem. Dive into crystal clear rock pools and waterfalls in a peaceful forest setting. Grab some drinks and snacks across the road at Currumbin Community Farm Campus, and have a picturesque picnic.

Gold Coast’s epic beaches

We’d be remiss not to mention the wide stretch of sandy coast and clear blue ocean that this city is known for. From Surfer’s Paradise to Coolangatta and Snapper Rocks, this coastal region is full of stunning views and amazing surf spots, not to mention beautiful, friendly people. Pack an esky, that’s Aussie for cooler, full of cold drinks and spend the day learning to surf at one of the many surf schools, or simply wave watching from shore. We could get used to this laid back Aussie life!
