Originated in Asakusa, Tokyo, Tenya is a Japanese chain specializing in tempura. Its first store in the Philippines opened in Megamall more than a year ago. While keeping a solid menu of the signature tempura plus soba/udon/rice combination, Tenya also regularly offers items which have been adjusted for the Pinoy experience.
Tenya’s holiday menu this season is good for family gatherings and small groups looking for a quick, casual but nearly-authentic Japanese cuisine. The Holiday Ooedo Set (above; PHP1,696) includes a basket of tempura, spicy salmon squid, the new ebi-tempura maki and four bowls of rice and soup.
But don’t worry, dining alone shouldn’t be a problem.
The holiday selection also includes the steak Jyu (PHP475), which is a generous serving of US angus beef served on Japanese rice. Those who need a tempura fix along with the meat may enjoy the tempura steak Jyu (PHP425), which is a slightly smaller serving of steak with assorted tempura.
Every quarter, Tenya comes up with a new milkshake flavor to serve as a sweet ending to a good meal. This season’s pick is a classic combination of strawberry and blueberry in a blend called merry berry (PHP185). It’s a satisfying glass that doubles as a drink and dessert.
Tenya Tempura’s holiday offerings are available until Jan 15, 2017. The branches may be found in the BGC Stopover, Market! Market!, SM Southmall, and SM Megamall.
