My city on a plate: Pattie Poniente, 32, recommends Alabang

Two years ago, Pattie Poniente, 32, moved to Alabang, and she finds the city’s laidback atmosphere a good fit to her leisurely lifestyle as a resort owner, Barre3 instructor, chef and mother of two.

BEST THING ABOUT YOUR LOCAL: I love the unique laidback feel of Alabang. I also feel like the air is actually cleaner and fresher on this part of the city. Usually, we just open our windows to enjoy the fresh air. We rarely use the AC anymore. I like how everything is so accessible. You can go to the mall, grocery, hospital, wet market in just 10 minutes with very minimal traffic.

BRUNCH: The Farm Organics (One Legacy Place, Don Jesus Blvd., Alabang Hills, Muntinlupa City; +63 2 9396598). If you are a wellness freak like me, you will love their Vegan Burger. It’s surprisingly tasty! Their organic steaks (PHP750) and burger (PHP250-PHP400) are great options, too! The avocado shake with the meal is a real winner.

LUNCH: Soga Miga (Alabang Molito Complex, Madrigal Ave., Alabang, Muntinlupa). This is our family’s favorite Korean go-to place here in the area. Our staple orders are the Samgyupsal and Wagyu beef slices. Their Mulnaeng myun, cold noodles with cold broth, is a winner as well. It’s enjoyed with a dash of tangy mustard and vinegar. Prepare to shell out PHP300-PHP500 per person here.

DINNER: Ramen Yushoken (Molito Complex, Madrigal Ave., Alabang, Muntinlupa. +63 2 8087424). This is the best ramen place in Alabang. Their bestsellers are the Tatanmen, Shio, and Shoyu (Php 320-280 per bowl). Their noodles are made fresh daily! Get an extra order of Aji Tamago (PHP80), you won’t regret it!

COFFEE: Vanilla Cupcake Bakery (Alabang Town Center, +63 2 4256238) I really like its dainty Alice in Wonderland feel! They have a variety of hot and cold coffee selections. I usually order the Malted Vanilla Milkshake (PHP220), though. A nice cupcake (PHP75-PHP90) is perfect with it.

DRINKS: Barcino (Lower Ground Floor, Alabang Town Center, Alabang-Zapote Road, Alabang, Muntilnupa; +63 2 8693612. Daily 11am-1am). I usually order the Tapas Platters (about PHP500), has a variety of cold cuts (jamon serrano, chorizo, etc) and cheese to go with a bottle of wine (PHP500 up).
