A young man from the Land of the Rising Sun is going viral on social media for peddling the popular Japanese dish omurice near the MRT North Avenue station in Quezon City.

Omurice is short for omelette rice. It’s a modern Japanese invention where fried rice with ketchup is wrapped in a tantalizing French omelette.

“Kuya Omurice” as the unidentified vendor calls himself on Facebook is selling the Japanese treat for only PHP35 per order.

Diane Adolfo who tried the intriguing omurice posted about her experience. She said that Kuya Omurice caught her attention because it’s not everyday that she sees a foreign national selling food items on the street.

Adolfo said that the omurice tasted similar to omelette in the Philippines. Her post has gone viral with nearly 50,000 likes.

Based on the posts on Kuya Omurice’s Facebook page, he cooks the dish himself. He sometimes sells his omurice in Cubao.

Kuya Omurice sometimes needs to limit the number of orders per customer because he gets a lot of orders.

On a post on his page, Kuya Omurice said he believes omurice “can help change the world.”

Well, we can’t argue with that. If you need a reminder of how good Japanese food can be when sold on Manila’s streets, here’s a video about an old favorite, Erra’s Ramen.
