Madrid Fusion Manila (MFM), the biggest culinary gathering in Asia, is back for its third year and has once again partnered with SM Supermalls and the Department of Tourism (DOT) to bring international ‘haute gastronomy’ closer to Filipinos.
With the theme “Towards a Sustainable Gastronomic Planet,” MFM and SM will highlight the warmth, uniqueness, and sustainability of Filipino cuisine through Flavors Fusion at SM — happening on April 1 to 8 in select SM Supermalls across the country. As part of the DOT’s Flavors of the Philippines, Flavors Fusion at SM aims to bring the festivities of MFM to various locations in the country for more people to experience and enjoy. There will be 22 SM Supermalls that will participate in the festival, including malls in Pampanga, Cebu, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao.
The fruitful combination of MFM and SM has given us more than a week of foodie adventures in various SM Supermalls — from informative food symposiums to exciting food tastings to amazing cooking demonstrations by the country’s top chefs.
Must-not-miss events include the Mega Food Expo on April 1-4 at the SM Megamall Fashion Hall where you can “let your taste buds travel with a series of food demonstrations” hosted by food writers JJ Yulo and Cheryl Tiu; the Spread: Food Carnival on April 8 at SM Seaside Cebu’s Mountain Wing Atrium, featuring “a fun food fair and culinary demonstrations” by professional chefs and gourmands; Davao on a Plate / Fresh Taste on April 1 at SM Lanang Premier in Davao City showcasing “the unique and bold flavors of Davao, highlighting local ingredients from both land and sea with Davao’s top gastronomic experts;” and Food Meets Fun: Chef Creations on April 8 and Culinary Weekend Fair on April 6-9 at SM City North Edsa in Quezon City.
Since 2015, MFM has been one of the most anticipated events in the country, attracting guest chefs, gourmands and spectators from all over the world. This year, MFM will set its focus on the Philippines’ fight for sustainability and food security to ensure that the country’s most treasured gastronomic flora and fauna are preserved together with its unique flavor and character — truly reminiscent of the Filipino taste.
