After a stressful week of rain and traffic, reward yourself with these desserts!

Stuck in carmageddon last night? Still stressed with this past week’s rain-traffic-flood combo? Not affected by class suspensions?

Well, according to experts (*ahem*), the best way to feel better and de-stress is to reward yourself with great food!

Here are some irresistible desserts to try this weekend (and one for next week!).

1) Alqueria Tapas, Paellas, y Bistecas
After three years in the industry, actor and restaurateur Marvin Agustin’s Alqueria Tapas, Paellas y Bistecas just got a newly revamped menu.

Multi-awarded chef Sonny Mariano created a menu so rich and bold featuring Spanish-Asian fusion dishes yet to be seen in the metro.

New savory dishes and Spanish classics are still in the menu, but here are the new dessert offers at Alqueria.

Life is short. Eat dessert first… Especially if it’s as irresistible as this Canonigo with Salted Egg Sauce.

It’s as delicious as it looks. Alqueria’s Manchego Cheesecake is definitely worth your diet.

Frio Caliente (cold and hot) is a delicious play on flavors, textures, and temperatures from multi-awarded chef Sonny Mariano. It has homemade salted caramel miso ice cream, a generous pouring of hot chocolate mousse, and for texture: crispy banana chips, apple cookies, strawberries, and mangoes.

Alqueria Tapas, Paellas y Bistecas is located at the 3rd floor of the Mega Fashion Hall, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.

2) Kartilya
Kartilya may just be a month old, but it is paving the way for a #DiningRevolution of its own.

Friends and colleagues Jan Paz, Paolo Misa, Lord Polintan, John Guttierrez, Masterchef Asia contestant Lica Ibarra, with Trina Ong, Michi Mendoza, and Pat Giron opened Kartilya on Jul 20, 2016.

Their menu features classic Filipino dishes with heriloom dishes from their families with a “Millenial Filipino” twist, thanks to Lica’s playful imagination.

A self-confessed dessert lover, chef Lica took it upon herself to give classic Filipino sweets a modern twist.

It’s warm, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet. This is chef Lica Ibarra’s homage to the Filipino classic bibingka and her signature dish for Masterchef Asia! Meet Kartilya’s revolutionary Bibingka Souffle.

It’s your favorite childhood streetside dessert with a modern gourmet twist, thanks to chef Lica Ibarra of Kartilya. This is Carrioca (gooey, chewy balls made of rice flour) stuffed with your choice between white chocolate, dark chocolate, or even chocnut!

Kartilya is located at Two Parkade Building, 7th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. They are open from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. For reservations, call (02) 893 2806.

3) The Wholesome Table
When model and host Bianca Araneta-Elizalde conceptualized her own restaurant, she already knew what she wanted.

Being exposed to better choices and accessible options when it comes to organic produce abroad inspired Elizalde to open up The Wholesome Table.

With such a diverse menu, one might have a hard time choosing which one to try first. We suggest going for their guilt-free dessert first.

The Wholesome Table’s Acai Bowl — creamy acai smoothie topped with bananas, strawberries, homemade granola (best!), and dessicated coconut. Power in a bowl.

The Wholesome Table has branches in Bonifacio Global City, Estancia Mall in Ortigas, and Salcedo Village, Makati City.

Bonus: Soon-to-open Hey Handsome!
From the team behind crowd favorite Your Local in the central business district of Makati City, Peranakan cuisine takes center stage at Hey Handsome! in Bonifacio Global City.

With the success of Your Local, executive chef Nicco Santos would’ve been happy there. But he decided to open Hey Handsome! With his business partner as an opportunity to promote his dedicated and competent culinary team.

The name “Hey Handsome” came from the expression of uncles and aunties serving in hawker stalls in Singapore. They often call the people waiting in line, “hey handsome!” to ease the pangs of waiting for food. In the Philippines, we say the same thing with “Uy pogi!” (Hey handsome!)

Bold, fresh, and oozing with robust tones, Peranakan cuisine is a glorious marriage of Southeast Asian flavors. Their main dishes are definitely worth a try, but their fusion desserts are something you cannot miss. Just take a look here:

Phoebe Punla’s Homemade Yogurt is going to be a hit when Hey Handsome opens on Aug 17! This light and guilt-free dessert has Alphonse Sotero’s black sesame tuile and a surprise at the bottom: black sesame paste that perfectly compliments the creamy yogurt.

A study in pink (crepes)! Take a look at this Kueh Dadar from soon-to-open Hey Handsome. The delicate pink crepe is stuffed with subtly sweet coconut (imagine pan de coco but tastier) and served with galangal cream, galangal powder, and yes Cadena de Amor blossoms. This is a sweet union of Asian flavors in one plate.
