Controversial hate-preacher, accused racist, and unequivocally “un-mannered” pedagogue Zamihan Mat Zin has issued an apology to the Sultan of Selangor. Kind of.

In a statement to Malay-language outlet Watan-Online, he wrote: “I would like to apologize to the Tuanku Sultan, if I ever offended you with my words when delivering a religious lecture. Indeed, I as a normal citizen have no intention of insulting the royal institution, besides only practicing my responsibility to spread Islamic teachings.”

If that mea culpa, which came in response to a very public condemnation by the sultan of Selangor, seems halfhearted in its wording to you, his recent Facebook posts suggest you are probably correct.

Posting a link to a statement given to Watan-Online, he tells his followers: “A warrior of the truth doesn’t have to fear any challenges ahead. He doesn’t have to worry about any threats against his life because he is fighting for the hereafter. I’m just a common rakyat (people) who will abide by Tuanku’s decision because it is his right. However, his actions will not ‘deprive’ me of my knowledge and spirit to continue the struggles of my faith.”

Yeah, definitely missing the point on this one.

Perhaps feeling that the odds were stacked against him regarding the recent debacle over a laundromat branded as “Muslims-only,” he turned his wrath towards the LGBTQ+ community, always an easy scapegoat.

He wrote on his Facebook page that the group was trying to bring the “Western agenda” to Malaysia, because apparently homosexuality doesn’t exist anywhere else.

Netizens were quick to support him, with Hafiz Shukri writing: “Keep up your spirits.” Another user, Mohd Zuhri Ahmad Hamadi encouraged him to continue his struggle for the “truth.”

However, not to fear, many saw the ridiculousness of his ire and hate-campaigning, with one user telling him that Facebook was a so-called “Western” invention, and that if he hated Westernization so much, maybe he should shut his account down.

Zing.
