Kantoi! A Johor-area woman was charged and fined RM3,000 (US$725) by a Session Court after she was found guilty of fudging her date of birth on her passport in order to appear younger.
Liw Ya Chee, who is in fact 36, told the presiding judge that she had made herself younger on her official document in order to curry favor with employers abroad. She changed both her birth date, as well as her official identification number.
Authorities foiled her plot to shave off a couple years at the Bangunan Sultan Abu Bakar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex, between Johor and Singapore, on a midnight bus, late last month.
Pleading guilty to the offense, which is punishable under the Passport Act 1966, she paid the fine in full, and was free to walk in a world where everyone now knows her real age.
Protip: If you fancy lying about your age within believable reason, don’t actually go and write on your passport. Be like the rest of us, and just tell that new friend at the bar you’re 24, just finished school, and will be starting an internship real soon.
