Woman finds grandmother’s decomposed body at home

A woman who wanted to pay her grandmother a visit got the shock of her life when she found her decomposed body instead.

According to The New Straits Times, the woman found the body of K. Letchumi, 70, when the former decided to visit the latter at her house in Taman Ikan Emas on Friday.

Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Chong Kok Sin told the daily that the woman sensed something was amiss when her grandmother did not answer the door, and she alerted the Fire and Rescue Department when she smelt a strong stench coming from inside the house.

“According to the woman, she arrived at her grandmother’s house and kept calling her name but failed to get any response.

“When she smelt a foul stench, she immediately alerted the authority to help her enter the house,” Chong was quoted as saying.

K. Letchumi was reportedly last seen by her neighbours on Tuesday night when her relatives came to visit, according to Chong.

“The neighbour told us that he never saw Letchumi since. Her house remained locked,” he told the daily.

The granddaughter told the authorities that Letchumi had been suffering from liver problems and diabetes.

“She had been living alone. Our investigations did not find any criminal elements,” he added.

Her remains were to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital for post-mortem.
