Woman climbs down three-meter drain to rescue puppies

A courageous woman who climbed down a three-meter monsoon drain with a ladder to rescue three puppies in Kajang became an overnight hero on social media.

According to a report by Sin Chew Daily, the woman, identified as Chen Pei Zhen, found out about the stranded puppies on Facebook while she was visiting her mother-in-law on Sunday.

The 36-year-old then reportedly rushed to the site and borrowed a ladder from residents nearby, who advised her not to go down the drain because it was dangerous.

Of course, she ignored them.

“After bringing the puppies out, I cleaned them at a house nearby before sending them to an animal shelter,” she was quoted as saying by the daily.

A picture of her holding the puppies has since gone viral on Facebook, and her brave act was applauded by Netizens, including several animal lovers’ groups.

Chen, who is from Johor Baru, dismissed her ‘hero’ status, as she was quoted as saying: “I just rescued three puppies, no need for such a big hoo-haa.”
