A woman has apologised for questioning the halal status of a food product by McDonald’s Malaysia on social media, triggering a response from religious authorities.
In a statement on its website, the fast food chain said they contacted the source of the allegation, who ‘acknowledged her grave error and apologised unreservedly’.
The company added that it had issued a statement last month to quash allegations on social media over the reason for its decision to discontinue its Quarter Pounder with Cheese burger.
“We found that the allegations resurfaced, and we would like to dismiss the untrue allegations which questioned our halal status,” it said.
On Tuesday, Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) stepped out to call for an end to speculation on the halal status of McDonald’s products.
“We hope that this matter is no longer played up by the public,” Bernama had quoted a spokesman as saying.
