Whale carcass washes up on Malacca beach

This is definitely not something you see on the beach every day.

A carcass believed to be that of a whale calf was found at Pantai Puteri in Malacca on Sunday, according to a report by The New Straits Times‘ Roshidi Abu Samah.

Civil Defence Department (JPAM) personnel Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah, 61, told the daily that his colleague found the carcass, measuring about two meters long, around 1am.

He said his colleague, who was on duty at a nearby lookout tower when he made the discovery, initially thought that the large object was a wooden stump washed ashore.

“Upon further inspection, he realised that the object was a dead whale calf,” he was quoted as saying.

Mohd Ridzua noted that there were visible injuries on the whale, very likely inflicted by a ship’s propeller.

The daily also reported that SWM Environment Sdn Bhd workers have been called in to dispose of the carcass.
