Watson’s Malaysia took down their controversial video, having debuted it earlier this morning to extensive social media criticism that had Malaysians asking across the board: “Where’s your head at?” Coconuts’ coverage garnered nearly four thousand shares before the video was pulled.
The 15-minute long digital video, which in Internet time basically qualifies it as War & Peace minus the achievement, depicted the tale of a woman who had a beautiful voice, but was “cursed with black skin” [Those are Watson’s PR words. Please, stop doing PR.]

The company issued a brief apology on their social media page, apologizing that “some of our fans [felt] offended by the video.” Ah… Fans?
Many commentators cried, too little, too late. The video was up for the greater part of the day, shared globally by disgusted netizens and with as many comments on the Watson’s page, lambasting their insensitivity to our multi-cultural society.
Here are some choice comments on the Watson’s apology:
“Your apology doesn’t sound sincere, Watson’s Malaysia. You’re making it sound like as if you’re still right and we’re the ones with the problem being sensitive and all.”
And:
“Well there you go again…you just made an offensive post by re-telling the legend and using a phrase such as cursed with black skin! Some legends should remain a legend. By spending a lot of money creating this ad, you are actually giving life to this legend and legitimizing disgusting views.”
Also:
“This apology is as fake as my ex.”
