Denying two charges under the Animal Welfare Act 2015, and another charge from the Penal Code, two men plead not guilty in a Selayang Sessions Court today.

A. Mohanraj, 41 ann S. S. Sathiya, 26, are accused of causing unnecessary suffering to a pregnant, stray cat that had wandered into a Gomabk-area launderette in the early hours of the morning on September 11.

Later that morning, a launderette customer opened a dryer only to find the body of the dead cat inside, covered in blood. Owners then released CCTV footage from earlier that day, captured a group of men entering the shop, picking up the cat, putting it inside, and turning the machine on. While he could not name the men, the launderette proprietor said that the images he saw were of men who had been previous customers.

Bail was set at RM18,000 (US$4,200); however, neither men could post the required funds, and have since been taken to Sungai Buloh prison.

A. Mohanraj, a taxi driver, and S. S. Sathiya, will be brought back to court October 1 for hearing.

Both were detained by Gombak police last Friday, while a third suspect is still being hunted by police.
