Australian media is reporting that a baby has died on an Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Perth this morning.
While the circumstances surrounding the child’s death are not yet clear, a medical emergency was declared on flight D7236 after the two-month old became unwell, with paramedics meeting the plane upon touchdown in Perth.

Emergency calls were made to St. John Ambulance at 5am, ahead of the flight’s 5:35am landing, and while paramedics battled to save the infant’s life, their efforts were unsuccessful.
Air Asia has since released a statement on the incident, confirming that a baby passed away during the early morning flight.
“The safety and well-being of our guests is always our number one priority, and in accordance with procedure, the flight crew requested medical assistance on landing at Perth International Airport,” a spokesman for the airline said.
“Upon arrival, the aircraft was met by a team of medical specialists and the relevant authorities, including the West Australian Police.
“We are unable to comment further on the infants’ medical situation; however, our thoughts are with the infant and family involved.”
Police are not treating the death as suspicious, and the local coroner is preparing the postmortem report.
The aircraft’s return flight to Kuala Lumpur at 6:50am was delayed as police continued their investigations into the matter.
