It was a narrow escape from death for three people traveling to Johor after the car in which they were traveling plunged into a 15-meter deep ravine along a collapsed road. The accident occurred at kilometer 16 of the Jalan Jemaluag-Mersing route at 1:30am this morning.
More than 70 meters of road were affected by the collapse.
Gulp.
Maybe you’re sitting there, like us, wondering just how a road can sink away without anyone noticing, or like, you know, putting a sign up.
Miraculously, only one of the passengers, identified as 60-year-old Swee Ah Peng, sustained injuries, and those were thankfully light. However, police are now trying to identify the other two passengers, who left the scene shortly after an ambulance arrived to take Swee to a nearby hospital. It is believed that the two left en route to Senai International Airport, in Johor.
Drivers have been advised to use the Jalan Nitar-Jemaluang road whilst traveling towards Johor or Mersing.
The road will remain closed until further notice, something that maybe should have been done a little quicker, eh?
