Tourist in ‘critical condition’ and coma after snatch-theft gone wrong near National Mosque

A Taiwanese tourist is in a coma, in critical condition after having hit her head in a failed snatch-theft attempt near the National Mosque Wednesday.

No suspects have been arrested, although police are on the hunt for an unidentified motorcyclist caught doing a u-turn on the pavement and approaching the woman from behind.

The victim, 55-year-old Liu Ling, was walking from the city’s Islamic Arts Museum on Jalan Perdana, to the mosque at noon. Her bag was positioned across her body, and the thief’s attempt to grab it was unsuccessful as it was attacked to her body.

However, Liu was thrown off balance, and fell, hitting her head sharply on the curb, and falling unconscious. She is on life support at Kuala Lumpur Hospital, already having undergone surgery to remove blood clots that formed from the fall.

Having arrived in Malaysia on April 15, alone, Liu’s family is set to come to KL in the next day or two to be with the victim.

Snatch thievery while en route to the outstanding National Mosque: How very, very sad. We hope that the victim is able to recover from these grievous injuries.
