Toddler lucky to be alive after being thrown from car along North-South Expressway

A 2-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after being flung from his family’s vehicle as they traveled southbound on the North-South Expressway in Negri Sembilan. He is currently at the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Seremban receiving treatment for injuries to his forearms and head.

The incident occurred around 3:20pm yesterday afternoon near Senawang, and dashcam footage of the aftermath shows the toddler looking dazed and sitting in the road, on one of Malaysia’s busiest motorways.

Police have since disclosed that the driver of a Perodua Myvi began to change lanes dangerously near the Honda Civic carrying the child. The Myvi veered close to a Honda Jazz before changing lanes yet again, colliding with the Civic. The driver of the Civic then lost control of the car, crashing into the road divider, and then into the Myvi. At some point during the crash, the toddler was thrown from the Civic.

In the dashcam footage following the crash, the child can be seen laying on the road as other motorists quickly stop and create a barrier around the tot with their cars to ensure that no other vehicles could hit him. The driver of a truck then jumps out, picking up the boy, and bringing him to safety.

Police have since arrested the Myvi driver on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Here’s wishing the young boy a speedy recovery, and reminding everyone everywhere that for all the freaking out surrounding the coronavirus, it’s important not to lose sight of the fact that you’re still way more likely to fall victim to someone driving like a dickhead on the highway.
