Tesco shut after rat nibbling on baked goods gets casual reaction from employees

The saying another day, another health infraction at your local food outlet might just have to change for Malaysia to “another hour, another rat dining in” after a local Tesco was just exposed for having a rodent cruising its bakery aisle.

You already had lunch, right? Sorry – we should have warned you.

Over a million Facebook users have watched the video, posted earlier this week, of the rat having his way with rows of Gardenia bread at a Shah Alam Tesco.

User Alia Ismail recorded the incident on Monday night while she was shopping with her son, showing the embolden rodent making his way around the loaves, and even casually peeping out at disgusted customers.

She wrote that when she alerted employees, they simply told her that having rodents was just part and parcel of being at a Tesco.

Shocked, the mother alerted health authorities, who shut down the hypermarket Tuesday, saying that it will only reopen Friday.

Tesco management responded saying that all of the baked goods on the shelf were subsequently destroyed, and the Setia Alam, Shah Alam shop was thoroughly cleaned.

They regret any inconvenience regarding the shop’s closure. We regret that apparently, rats are as present as employees at a supermarket. Nowhere is safe. Wash your fruit, people.
