Teenager allegedly steals lorry, then takes cops on 10km chase

A 19-year-old teenager led the police on a 10km high-speed chase in a stolen lorry on Tuesday.

According to The Star Online, the suspect had allegedly hijacked the eight-tonne lorry in Kulai, Johor and was spotted by the police on the Kesas Highway at 10.15am.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohammad Azlin Sadari told the news portal that the patrol units ordered the the teenager to stop the vehicle, but instead, he sped away.

“They tried to slow him down but he didn’t stop and even slammed the lorry into our cars a few times,” he was quoted as saying.

The high speed chase continued all the way to Shah Alam — he even crashed through a boom gate at the Kota Kemuning toll plaza — before he lost control of the lorry and turned turtle while making a sharp turn near Jalan Kebun.

The suspect reportedly suffered a broken leg in the accident.

ACP Mohammad Azlin told The Star that quick checks revealed that the teenager had a criminal record involving drugs and vehicle theft.

“The case is being handed to Kulai while the teenager is wanted for a car theft case in Petaling Jaya,” he was further quoted as saying.
