More news is emerging from a suspected murder case in Taiping, three hours outside of the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, where a 14-year-old girl and her boyfriend have been placed under arrest. The duo is suspected of killing the girl’s brother at their home just outside the picturesque town.
Both the girl, along with her 15-year-old boyfriend were arrested on Sunday, after the brother, identified as S. Sritharan, was reported missing Friday, July 5. He was 16, and a student Sekolah Menegah Kebangsaan (SMK) King Edward V.
Police discovered the body, wrapped in plastic, in the back lane of a neighbor’s house, at 12:20am Sunday.
Following their arrest, the two will be held in police remand for six days, from Monday. In custody, the two teens have said to have confessed to the murder. Sources say they have confessed to covering the victim’s head with plastic, and then slitting his neck and wrists. Allegedly, they discarded the knife behind a nearby empty house.
While no motive on the murder has been identified, there are reports that a fight ensued between the three after the boyfriend’s mobile phone was discovered at the victim’s family home. Some outlets are reporting that the two suspects had skipped school that day, and that the victim took them to task over their absence.
None of these have been corroborated by police.
The body is currently undergoing a postmortem examination in Ipoh.
