Surprise, surprise! Malaysia voted best travel destination in Asia

Amidst all of the not-so-great publicity surrounding Malaysia these days, here’s some good news: Malaysia has just been voted the best travel destination in Asia.

According to a report by Star2, our country came out tops against the likes of Singapore, Macau, South Korea and Thailand to bag the award at the World Travel Awards Asia and Australasia.

The awards ceremony were reportedly held at the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort in Vietnam over the weekend.

The winners were picked based on votes casted by major players in travel and tourism including senior executives, tour operators, travel agents as well as the general public.

The winners of the regional awards will automatically qualify for the World Travel Awards grand finale, which will take place on December 2 in the Maldives.

Queenstown in New Zealand was voted as the best travel destination in Australasia.

Meanwhile, the Philippines were voted as Asia’s leading beach destination and Hong Kong was voted as leading city break destination in Asia.

However, the good news didn’t end there as Malaysia’s budget airline AirAsia was named Asia’s leading low-cost airline at the ceremony.
